SEARCHES
Searches for all certificates are based on the information that you, the customer, provides to us. It is your responsibility to ensure the accuracy and validity of this information.
Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates
We will search for birth, marriage and death certificates for a period of up to three years; one year either side of the year specified. In all instances of an Unsuccessful Search, any resulting information will be passed on to you.
The 50 Year Rule
For applications for birth certificates for births registered in the past 50 years it is essential that all information submitted must be accurate and
complete.
In the event of inaccurate information being supplied a certificate may not be issued and will be deemed an Unsuccessful Application.
If we are unable to supply your certificate from the information provided by you, resulting from an Unsuccessful Search or an Unsuccessful Application, we will retain a search fee of GBP 12.50 and refund the difference of the original payment. However, at our discretion we will try to contact you prior to this for further information if appropriate.
In the unlikely event that we have to issue a full or partial refund as a result of circumstances beyond our control we will retain an administration handling fee of £0.50 to cover us for banking transaction refund charges levied on us by our merchant card collection services. This is a direct result of recent changes in banking terms and conditions.
Decree Absolutes
Decree Absolute searches cover a period of up to 10 years inclusive. It is assumed that the Decree Absolute exists. In the event that no match has been found within the search years required, no refund will be given. We will send a letter confirming that no Decree Absolute has been issued together
with a copy of the “no trace” letter issued by HM Court Service.
CONTRACT
The contract with Official.Certificates.co.uk is deemed to start when we have received both the customer’s order and their full payment for the goods ordered. Official-Certificates.co.uk follows the THE CONSUMER PROTECTION (DISTANCE SELLING) REGULATIONS 2000 as published by the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry).
Under these regulations, certain contracts are excluded from the right to cancel unless the parties agree otherwise, such as a contract for the supply of goods made to the consumer’s specifications (regulation 13). We must therefore insist that the customer checks the information submitted in their order as this constitutes the consumer’s specification.
BREAKDOWN OF COSTS
All our prices for certificates consist of the disbursements we will incur dealing with government authorities and our agency fees. The amounts shown
